What is yoga?
Yoga is the practice of moving through a series of poses, or asanas, combining your movements with your breath. It was originally developed by Hindu monks to help them prepare their bodies for long periods seated in meditation. Yoga is now practiced in many styles, but the original intention of combining mind, body and spirit to achieve inner peace remains the same. Yoga has stood the test of time. It just works.
I’m new to yoga and I’m not sure where to begin…
Begin by coming to class. Call me and we can work out the best time and class for you. Remember, everyone was a beginner once. You have nothing to lose except perhaps your tight hamstrings and stiff muscles.
I’ve not done yoga before and I’m not very flexible…
A lot of people think yoga is just for bendy women in tights! Yoga is for everyone. If you’re not flexible now, that will start to change as soon as you start to practice. Come to class to learn ways to stretch safely and effectively.
OMG! I could never do that!
Be inspired, but never intimidated, by advanced poses. There are always variations and modifications that will bring similar benefits. It is an individual thing and we work to develop the best practice for your body.
What do I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely without getting in your way. Tights or shorts with a t-shirt or tank is ideal. We practice in bare feet. You won’t need any shoes in class.
What do I bring?
Just bring yourself. I provide mats, blankets, bolsters, straps and blocks. These props are there to help you have a more comfortable and supported practice. If you have your own mat please feel free to bring it.
How often should I practice?
If you practice yoga regularly once a week, it will likely become the cornerstone of your week, the time and space that you look forward to as a time just for you, to stretch, strengthen, rest and recharge. Once you develop a regular practice, you may well find you wish to practice more often just because you like the way yoga makes you feel!
Can I come more than once a week?
Yes, of course, and your practice will develop more quickly as a result. I currently offer two time slots for beginners and Level 1 each week. I also offer a discount for subsequent classes taken within the same week.
How do I pay?
You pay cash at the start of class, at the start of each month. Please see the Classes tab for details.
Can I start at any time?
Yes, contact me and we’ll work out the time and class that best suits you.
Can I come if I have an injury?
Yoga can be a great way to manage an injury and to assist recovery. It all depends on the nature of the injury. Let’s discuss so we can see if it is safe or helpful for you to practice.
Can I practice if I’m pregnant?
I know from experience that yoga is a wonderful way to look after your physical and mental well being while carrying a baby. I recommend you go to pre-natal class though. It will be tailored to your needs and you will get to meet other expectant mums.
If I miss a class can I make up in another class?
If you have to miss a class when unexpected or special occasions arise, you can make up at another class within the same month.
Is there parking?
Yes, there is plenty of parking at the hall and it is free!
